What is GHS?
The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals or GHS is an internationally agreed-upon system, created by the United Nations.
From 1st June 2015 GHS requires manufacturers, importers, downstream users and distributors of chemical substances and mixtures to adopt the standard.
GHS is set to unify communication of hazardous products and replace existing country specific regulations
GHS pictogram labels are used to depict the recommended measures that should be taken to minimize or prevent adverse effects caused by exposure to hazardous products
What Information do you need on your labels ?
The standard elements required on the GHS label are
Product identifier* data about products: product code, name, hazard and precautionary statements, warning word, pictograms
Signal word* distinguished two signal words that indicates the relative level of severity of hazards to alert the reader to a potential hazard eg Danger; Warning
GHS pictograms* These can be saved in a central database / server
Hazard statements* & Precautionary statements*: a complete statements list in 23 European languages
